Don McLaughlin, a Republican recently elected to the Texas State House representing the 80th district, has posted a series of statements on social media regarding disaster recovery efforts and legislative action on flood preparedness in Texas.
On August 19, 2025, McLaughlin shared his support for an unnamed statement by posting, “Couldn’t have said it better https://t.co/jfZCVnnMIQ”.
The following day, he expressed gratitude toward Texas Governor Greg Abbott for supporting rural communities affected by flooding. In his August 20 post, McLaughlin wrote, “Thank you, @GregAbbott_TX , for standing up for rural Texas. Uvalde County’s approval for a Presidential Disaster Declaration is an important step to ensure our community has the resources needed to recover from the recent flooding.
On August 21, McLaughlin acknowledged legislative collaboration on disaster preparedness measures. He stated, “I want to thank Chairman @KingForTexas for his work and leadership on Senate Bill 2. The bill incorporates the key provisions we outlined in House Bill 45 to strengthen flood preparedness and ensure a coordinated response when disasters strike. I’m grateful to see those”.
McLaughlin began serving in the Texas State House in 2025 after replacing Tracy King as representative of District 80.
