On July 14, 2025, Cuellar stated: “In South Texas, folks tell me what matters: a good job, a doctor they can afford, safe schools, and a fair shot to build a better life. That’s what a responsible budget should support. But the partisan budget bill signed into law on July 4th does the opposite. It rewards the”. He expressed disappointment with the recently enacted budget legislation and underscored his view that it does not address the priorities of his constituents.

The images I saw were heartbreaking, and I am committed to securing the federal funding needed for cleanup, rebuilding, and direct”. He described visits with federal agencies such as FEMA and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), as well as local emergency personnel.
Henry Cuellar was born in Laredo in 1955 and continues to reside there at age 67. He holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and the University of Texas at Austin (JD). Before joining Congress in 2005—replacing Ciro Rodriguez—he served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1987 to 2001.
