Rep. Henry Cuellar, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 28th district, recently addressed economic and community issues in a series of posts on his social media account.
On August 13, 2025, Cuellar commented on the state of the national economy, stating: “Short-term boosts in revenue like last month’s jump in tariff collections can’t replace a stable, long-term economic plan. Even with the added income from customs duties, our deficit is still rapidly growing.
To make a bad situation worse, the partisan budget bill signed last”.
Later that day, Cuellar highlighted local engagement efforts in San Antonio: “My San Antonio Outreach Coordinator, Jesus Martinez, recently presented 18 Congressional Recognitions to the presidents of Neighborhood Associations in the Eastside of San Antonio in Bexar County who have participated in the monthly roundtable discussion group.

On August 14, 2025, Cuellar discussed federal funding for infrastructure improvements: “As part of the FY26 Interior Appropriations Bill, I helped secure $35 million for small and rural communities – including those in South Texas – to tackle the complex challenges of improving their water and wastewater systems. Across our region, too many families still face aging https://t.co/lVZNyNbJpB”.
Cuellar has held his congressional seat through multiple election cycles. In 2024 he won re-election against Jay Furman with 52.8% of the vote. Previous victories include defeating Cassy Garcia in 2022 with 56.65%, Sandra Whitten in 2020 with 58.3%, Arthur Thomas in 2018 with 84.4%, Zeffen Hardin in 2016 with 66.2%, and Will Alkens in 2014 with over 82% support.
