Rep. Henry Cuellar, U.S. Representative for Texas’s 28th congressional district, addressed several issues on September 10, 2025, through a series of posts on his official Twitter account.
In a statement regarding recent events, Cuellar wrote on September 10: “I condemn political violence and all its evil forms in the strongest terms possible. Today, I am praying for Charlie Kirk’s family, his wife Erika, and their two precious young children. May the Lord grant them strength and comfort in this time of heartbreaking loss. God bless”.
Later that day, he highlighted legislative action during an appropriations bill markup session: “During the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill markup, I introduced an amendment to ensure federal agencies deliver real results for the American people. My amendment strengthens oversight, modernizes the metrics agencies use to” (September 10).
Cuellar also reported securing provisions aimed at protecting job training initiatives: “At last night’s Appropriations Committee markup, I secured critical language in the bill manager’s amendment to protect the @USDOL Job Corps program from defunding and closure. I’ve seen firsthand how this program has changed lives in Laredo by giving young people the skills,” (September 10).
Henry Cuellar has represented Texas’s 28th district since 2005 and has consistently won re-election over multiple cycles. In 2024 he defeated Jay Furman with 52.8% of the vote; previous victories include defeating Cassy Garcia in 2022 with 56.65%, Sandra Whitten in 2020 with 58.3%, Arthur Thomas in 2018 with 84.4%, Zeffen Hardin in 2016 with 66.2%, and Will Alkens in 2014 with over 82% of the vote.
