U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar has used his social media platform to address the impact of recent funding cuts and the looming government shutdown on community services. In a series of posts dated October 2, 2025, Cuellar highlighted concerns raised by local organizations and warned about potential disruptions to essential programs.
On October 2, 2025, Cuellar wrote, “I recently met with the Safer Path team to hear firsthand how recent funding cuts are affecting their ability to provide services like crisis response, safe housing, counseling, and advocacy for survivors and their families. Later that day, Cuellar addressed broader concerns about federal funding interruptions: “The government shutdown is going to affect communities nationwide. Healthcare and some Medicaid services experience interruptions. Many families risk losing access to essential health care, nutrition programs, and support services that they rely on every day. Henry Cuellar has represented his district through several election cycles. Most recently in 2024, he won re-election against Jay Furman with 52.8% of the vote. In previous years, he secured victories over Cassy Garcia in 2022 (56.65%), Sandra Whitten in 2020 (58.3%), Arthur Thomas in 2018 (84.4%), Zeffen Hardin in 2016 (66.2%), and Will Alkens in 2014 (82.1%).
