U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar, who serves Texas’s 28th congressional district, recently used his social media platform to address concerns regarding veterans’ healthcare and federal budget proposals.

On August 18, 2025, Cuellar highlighted issues facing veterans in South Texas by stating, “Veterans across South Texas depend on timely, quality care from the @DeptVetAffairs. Staff shortages and hiring freezes put that care at risk.

In #TX28, where thousands of military families call home, we must ensure every veteran can see a doctor when they need one.

Later the same day, he criticized proposed Republican budget plans for their potential impact on health and welfare programs. He wrote, “Republicans promised their budget wouldn’t touch seniors’ health care, but the nonpartisan @USCBO reports it could cut nearly $500 billion from Medicare by 2034.

On top of that, the budget slashes Medicaid and SNAP funding while adding $3.4 trillion to the deficit to fund tax”.

Cuellar also encouraged followers to seek additional information through investigative reporting by sharing a link: “Read more in @propublica.
