U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar shared a series of updates on July 28, 2025, highlighting recent federal investments and community events impacting South Texas.
In his first post, Cuellar announced funding for border security initiatives: “I’m excited to share another important win for South Texas in this year’s Homeland Security appropriations bill. I secured $4 million to control the overgrowth of Carrizo cane along the Rio Grande, helping improve visibility and access for Border Patrol agents. This investment” (July 28, 2025).
Later that day, Cuellar attended a local infrastructure event. He wrote: “This morning in South Laredo, I joined @TxDOT Commissioner Alex Meade III, Mayor Victor Treviño, project engineers, and local leaders to break ground on the Lomas Del Sur Overpass Project. This transformational $49.5 million investment – with 80% of the funding coming from” (July 28, 2025).
Cuellar also recognized Buffalo Soldiers Day with a message about military history and civil rights: “On #BuffaloSoldiersDay, we honor the legacy of Black Americans who served in uniform after the Civil War. Many were formerly enslaved, yet they answered the call to serve with courage and distinction, even as their country denied them full rights. Thank you to the @BCBSA1 for” (July 28, 2025).
Henry Cuellar has held his congressional seat through multiple election cycles. In 2024 he won re-election against Jay Furman with approximately 52.8% of the vote; in previous years he defeated Cassy Garcia (2022), Sandra Whitten (2020), Arthur Thomas (2018), Zeffen Hardin (2016), and Will Alkens (2014) by varying margins.
