U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar, a long-serving Democratic congressman from Texas, addressed economic concerns and recent budget legislation in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on August 12 and 13, 2025.

On August 12, Cuellar commented on the state of federal revenues and fiscal policy, stating, “Short-term boosts in revenue like last month’s jump in tariff collections can’t replace a stable, long-term economic plan. Even with the added income from customs duties, our deficit is still rapidly growing. To make a bad situation worse, the partisan budget bill signed last”. The same day, he shared an article from Bloomberg Government with the post: “Read more below from @BGOV. https://t.co/9ZMrerjDTU”.

The following day, Cuellar posted another link to an article from Bloomberg Business: “Read more below from @business. https://t.co/6jwVBvemEX”.

Henry Cuellar has maintained his seat in Congress through several election cycles. In 2024, he defeated Jay Furman with 52.8% of the vote; in 2022, he won against Cassy Garcia with 56.65%; and in previous years he prevailed over Sandra Whitten (2020), Arthur Thomas (2018), Zeffen Hardin (2016), and Will Alkens (2014). These consistent victories highlight his established presence in Texas politics.

Cuellar’s recent comments reflect ongoing debates about U.S. fiscal policy and government spending priorities as lawmakers face persistent deficits despite occasional increases in tariff revenues.
