Representative Henry Cuellar, who has served Texas’s 28th District in the U.S. Congress since 2005, recently shared updates on his legislative efforts and activities through a series of posts on social media. Cuellar, a Laredo native with a long-standing commitment to his district, addressed issues ranging from rural community investment to economic stability for local businesses and border security challenges.

On July 10, 2025, Cuellar highlighted his focus on supporting rural communities in South Texas. He stated: “In Congress, I’ve been focused on delivering funding that strengthens rural communities across South Texas, like Starr County. This year’s agriculture appropriations bill includes a key investment: $75 million for grants for colonias and other underserved communities through the”.

Later that day, Cuellar discussed economic concerns during an appearance on CNN with Abby Phillip. He wrote: “It was great to join @abbydphillip last night on @CNN to talk about the real-world challenges in #TX28, including the instability local businesses deal with from unpredictable tariffs. I’ve heard directly from job creators and their message is clear: they need certainty to plan,”.

On July 11, 2025, Cuellar reported on a briefing held in Laredo with City Mayor Victor D. Treviño and representatives from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Department of Defense. The discussion focused on border security issues such as stash houses, high-speed pursuits, drug smuggling, and cartel-operated drones. As he described: “Today, City of Laredo Mayor Victor D. Treviño joined me to see one of the Stryker units in Laredo for a briefing with @CBP and the @DeptofDefense. We discussed challenges along the border, including stash houses, high-speed pursuits, drug smuggling, and cartel-operated drones.”

Henry Cuellar has represented Texas’s 28th District since replacing Ciro Rodriguez in 2005 after previously serving in the Texas House of Representatives from 1987 to 2001. Born in Laredo in 1955 and currently residing there at age 67, Cuellar holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and the University of Texas at Austin (JD).
