Rep. Henry Cuellar, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 28th district, shared updates on social media regarding his recent engagements on April 30, 2025, in Washington, D.C. Cuellar, who has been in office since 2005 after replacing Ciro Rodriguez, interacted with various groups highlighting his continuous involvement in community and economic matters.

In the morning, Cuellar welcomed students from United Day School of Laredo during their annual visit to the Capitol. Expressing admiration for their inquisitiveness, Cuellar remarked, “I was impressed by their thoughtful questions and interest in public service! South Texas has a bright future with young leaders like these.” The encounter underscored the engagement of young Texans in governance and public affairs.

Later in the day, Cuellar convened with members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 776. This organization, representing over 300 members in his district, discussed with Cuellar significant topics such as F-35 funding and workforce development. Cuellar noted, “We discussed F-35 funding, workforce development, and ensuring federal contracts support good-paying, skilled union jobs.” This meeting reiterated Cuellar’s advocacy for worker representation and skill development in the aerospace industry.

Cuellar concluded his day with discussions on infrastructure and trade with representatives from the Starr Camargo Bridge Co. The bridge’s significance as a connection between the Rio Grande Valley and Mexican cities was emphasized. Cuellar stated, “It’s great to work together to expand cross-border trade,” underscoring the importance of fostering economic ties and infrastructure development in South Texas.

Cuellar, born in 1955 in Laredo, Texas, holds a BA from Georgetown University and a JD from the University of Texas at Austin. His legislative career began in the Texas House of Representatives, where he served from 1987 to 2001 before entering the U.S. Congress.
