U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar, who has represented Texas’s 28th congressional district through several election cycles, shared updates on local events and legislative actions in a series of posts on October 9, 2025.
In his first post, Cuellar described a visit to a local health clinic: “This morning in Zapata, I toured the Zapata County @GCHCTexas Health Clinic alongside County Judge Joe Rathmell, County Sheriff Ramon Montes, and Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Judge Olga Bruni with CEO Elmo Lopez to see firsthand the vital services they provide to our” (posted October 9, 2025).
Later that day, he addressed ongoing political issues in Congress: “Today, I joined 143 of my House colleagues in calling on Speaker Johnson to immediately end the Republican-led shutdown and protect Affordable Care Act premium tax credits. In #TX28, 113,000 residents rely on these credits to afford quality health coverage. Already, some” (posted October 9, 2025).
Cuellar also highlighted community engagement by his office at a local business event: “Recently, my Laredo Outreach Coordinator, Melissa Peña, attended the @LaredoChamber End-of-the-Year Award Ceremony, where Chairwoman Sandra Alaniz officially passed the gavel to Rosy Chase, the Chamber’s new Chairwoman of the Board. Sandra, the fifth woman to lead the Chamber in” (posted October 9, 2025).
Henry Cuellar has consistently secured his seat in Congress over multiple election cycles. In 2024 he won against Jay Furman with approximately 52.8% of the vote; previous victories include defeating Cassy Garcia in 2022 with about 56.65%, Sandra Whitten in 2020 with around 58.3%, Arthur Thomas in 2018 with about 84.4%, Zeffen Hardin in 2016 with roughly 66.2%, and Will Alkens in 2014 with approximately 82.1%. These results demonstrate sustained electoral support for Cuellar within his district.
