Rep. Henry Cuellar, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 28th district, recently highlighted two developments for South Texas in a series of tweets posted on July 29, 2025.
On July 29, Cuellar shared news about a local infrastructure project: “ICYMI: Yesterday, I had the opportunity to join @TxDOT Commissioner Alex Meade III, @cityoflaredo Mayor Victor Treviño, and community leaders in the groundbreaking ceremony for a major infrastructure project in South Laredo. Of the $49.5 million cost for the Lomas del Sur”. In a follow-up tweet posted moments later, he directed readers to additional coverage: “Read more on the project from @lmtnews. https://t.co/gjqNlrWWUe”.
Later that day, Cuellar addressed funding for law enforcement efforts against online child exploitation: “I’m excited to share another important win for South Texas in this year’s Homeland Security appropriations bill. I secured a $5 million increase for the Child Exploitation Investigations Unit at HSI’s Cyber Crimes Center, which strengthens our fight against online child abuse and https://t.co/52F0CKB6VG”.
Cuellar has held his seat through several election cycles since 2014. Most recently, he won reelection in 2024 by defeating Jay Furman with 52.8% of the vote to Furman’s 47.2%. In prior years, Cuellar prevailed over Cassy Garcia in 2022 (56.65% to 43.35%), Sandra Whitten in 2020 (58.3% to 39%), Arthur Thomas in 2018 (84.4% to 15.6%), Zeffen Hardin in 2016 (66.2% to 31.3%), and Will Alkens in 2014 (82.1% to 13.3%).
