Henry Cuellar reflects on personal legacy and border security advocacy

Rep. Henry Cuellar, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 28th district, recently shared personal reflections and policy positions through his social media platform. Born in Laredo, Texas in 1955, Cuellar has been a congressional representative since 2005 after succeeding Ciro Rodriguez. His academic background includes a BA from Georgetown University and a JD from the University of Texas at Austin.

On May 22, 2025, Rep. Cuellar commemorated what would have been his father Martin’s 99th birthday by reflecting on his father’s influence on his life. He stated that Martin “devoted his life to family and community” and imparted values such as “hard work, sacrifice, and love.” Cuellar mentioned how these lessons resonate with him when he observes the futures of his daughters Christina and Catie. “Today would have been my father Martin’s 99th birthday…”

In another post on the same day, Cuellar simply referenced USA Today with an emoji pointing to a link: “@USATODAY https://t.co/7db58IECFr”.

Additionally, Rep. Cuellar outlined his stance on border security measures in Congress through another tweet posted later that day. He emphasized advocating for increased manpower at borders, ending certain immigration practices like catch and release, utilizing expedited deportations under Title 8, constructing river roads essential for security operations, and upgrading technology including lighting systems: “I’ve strongly advocated in Congress for smarter border security…”

Henry Cuellar has served in various capacities over the years including as a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1987 to 2001 before joining Congress.
