Rep. Henry Cuellar, U.S. Representative for Texas’s 28th congressional district, used his social media platform on October 3, 2025, to address constituents’ concerns about the potential impact of a government shutdown.
In a post made at 20:14 UTC, Cuellar asked residents of his district to share their experiences and worries regarding the possibility of a Republican-led shutdown. He wrote, “SHARE YOUR STORY: Do you live in #TX28 and are you worried about how a Republican shutdown will impact your family – from higher health care costs to rising prices or delays in vital services? I want to hear directly from you. Please share your story using the survey below.”.
A minute later, he followed up with a link to the survey, posted as “https://t.co/fRMyClinRI”.
Later that evening at 21:41 UTC, Cuellar addressed the effects of a possible disruption in federal funding on healthcare access. He stated, “Republican-held districts have the highest Affordable Care Act enrollment, with millions of families depending on subsidies for affordable health care. Farmers, small business owners, and workers without employer coverage are among those who’d be hit hardest if these credits”.
Henry Cuellar has represented Texas’s 28th congressional district for several terms and has won multiple general elections against various opponents over the years. In 2024 he defeated Jay Furman with approximately 52.8% of the vote; previous victories include wins over Cassy Garcia in 2022 (56.65%), Sandra Whitten in 2020 (58.3%), Arthur Thomas in 2018 (84.4%), Zeffen Hardin in 2016 (66.2%), and Will Alkens in 2014 (82.1%).
