On October 9, Cuellar addressed the status of federal operations during the government shutdown, stating, “Due to the Republican shutdown, the federal government remains closed. However, @USDOT will continue maintaining essential safety and operational functions. Air traffic control, highway safety operations, and emergency response will remain active to ensure the safety of the”.
Later that day, he posted about Middle East diplomacy: “My statement on the historic peace deal between Israel and Hamas. https://t.co/4zRnYDNyCj”.
On October 10, Cuellar highlighted his support for local businesses with a personal note: “Last night, I enjoyed a wonderful meal at Asian Bistro! Delicious food, a warm welcome from the staff, and happy to support small businesses. https://t.co/rw4LAuOkWf”.
Henry Cuellar has represented his district through multiple election cycles. In 2024, he won re-election against Jay Furman with 52.8% of the vote. Previous victories include defeating Cassy Garcia in 2022 with 56.65%, Sandra Whitten in 2020 with 58.3%, Arthur Thomas in 2018 with 84.4%, Zeffen Hardin in 2016 with 66.2%, and Will Alkens in 2014 with 82.1%. These results demonstrate his longstanding incumbency and electoral success within his district.
