Rep. Henry Cuellar, who represents Texas’s 28th district in the U.S. Congress, announced several recent developments benefiting agriculture and local communities in South Texas through a series of posts on July 21, 2025.
In one post from that day, Cuellar highlighted new funding for livestock protection: “I’m excited to share some important wins for agriculture in South Texas, including right here in Webb County. I helped secure $111.5 million in this year’s agriculture appropriations bill for the Cattle Health program, which supports fever tick eradication to protect livestock.” (July 21, 2025).
Cuellar also shared news about community engagement efforts by his office: “My San Antonio Outreach Coordinator, Kelly Brooks, attended the ACA (Atascosa Citizens for Action) community meeting. The meeting brought the community together to share resources, highlight upcoming events, and spread the word about how local businesses and organizations can” (July 21, 2025).
In another update on federal support for agricultural research in the region, Cuellar wrote: “I’m pleased to announce federal funding that will benefit South Texas, including Duval County. I helped secure $1.79 billion in this year’s agriculture appropriations bill for the Agricultural Research Service. This program provides research critical to solving our nation’s” (July 21, 2025).
Henry Cuellar has served as a member of Congress since replacing Ciro Rodriguez in 2005 and currently represents Texas’s 28th District. He previously served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1987 until 2001. Born and residing in Laredo since his birth in 1955, Cuellar is an alumnus of Georgetown University and holds a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
