Rep. Henry Cuellar, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 28th district, shared updates on his recent meetings and congressional appointments in a series of social media posts published on September 11 and 12, 2025.
On September 11, Cuellar highlighted a visit from a constituent, stating: “Great to welcome my friend, and one of South Texas’s outstanding pilots, Remy Salinas, to my office during this busy appropriations season. During our visit, I was able to show him a behind-the-scenes look at the appropriations markup process while he was visiting in Washington.”
Later that day, he reported on trade discussions with industry representatives: “Yesterday, I met with the @NCBFAA, along with representatives of American, Mexican, and Canadian industries. We had a constructive conversation on the importance of free trade, the need to reduce tariffs, and how these steps can help lower prices for businesses and consumers” (September 11).
On September 12, Cuellar announced his reappointment to an important legislative committee: “Today, I was appointed to serve once more on Congress’s Appropriations Conference Committee – the first convened since 2019. In 2019, I served on the Homeland Security Appropriations Conference Committee, where I secured key investments to strengthen security along the Southern”.
Henry Cuellar has held his congressional seat through multiple election cycles. He most recently won reelection in 2024 against Jay Furman with approximately 53% of the vote. Previous victories include defeating Cassy Garcia in 2022 (57% of votes), Sandra Whitten in 2020 (58%), Arthur Thomas in 2018 (84%), Zeffen Hardin in 2016 (66%), and Will Alkens in 2014 (82%). These results reflect his longstanding incumbency and continued support within his district.
