Rep. Henry Cuellar, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 28th district since 2005, highlighted several initiatives and meetings through a series of posts on his official social media account in mid-July 2025.
On July 15, Cuellar addressed the importance of trade agreements for local economies, writing: “ICYMI: On Saturday, I joined @USHCC President Ramiro Cavazos in San Antonio to speak on the importance of protecting the Tomato Suspension Agreement that keeps food prices affordable and safeguards thousands of jobs in South Texas. If this deal is scrapped, families could see” (posted July 15, 2025). The Tomato Suspension Agreement is an accord designed to regulate tomato imports from Mexico into the United States to stabilize market conditions and support domestic producers.
Later that day, Cuellar welcomed representatives from an advocacy group focused on Hispanic communities. He stated: “I was happy to welcome @LIBREinitiative State Director @mrjorgemtz and representatives today to discuss their efforts serving Hispanic communities nationwide. Their dedication to empowering Latinos through education and policy advocacy is vital to expanding opportunities for” (posted July 15, 2025). The LIBRE Initiative is known for its work supporting Hispanic Americans through educational programs and public policy engagement.
The following morning, Cuellar announced funding secured for rural housing in South Texas: “I’m pleased to share a major win for South Texas, including communities like Guadalupe County. I helped secure $84.48 million in this year’s agriculture appropriations bill for direct loans in the Rural Housing Fund. This program supports affordable housing and improves living” (posted July 16, 2025).
Henry Cuellar has represented Texas’s 28th District since replacing Ciro Rodriguez in Congress in 2005. Before his tenure in Congress, he served as a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1987 to 2001. Born in Laredo, Texas in 1955, Cuellar holds degrees from Georgetown University and the University of Texas at Austin.
