Representative Henry Cuellar, who has served Texas’s 28th District in the U.S. Congress since 2005 and previously held office in the Texas House of Representatives, recently shared updates on local events and policy matters via social media. Cuellar, a Laredo native with degrees from Georgetown University and the University of Texas at Austin, highlighted community engagement, economic policy, and disaster response efforts.
On July 12, 2025, Cuellar reflected on his participation in a local event: “Yesterday, I had the honor of joining our community for the opening of the 21st Sister Cities Festival, an annual tradition that speaks to the heart of who we are in Laredo. This vibrant gathering celebrates not only our deep ties with Mexico and Latin America but the unity,” he wrote.
The following day, July 13, 2025, Cuellar discussed trade policy at a press conference alongside Ramiro Cavazos: “Today I joined my friend Ramiro Cavazos, President and CEO of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, for a press conference to highlight the importance of the Tomato Suspension Agreement. This is a quiet but critical trade deal that keeps grocery prices stable, trade lanes open,” he stated.
On July 14, 2025, Cuellar addressed recent events in Kerr County: “After unimaginable loss in Kerr County, it was deeply humbling to be on the ground to see the damage firsthand, thank our first responders and volunteers, and reinforce our commitment to ensuring a tragedy like this never happens again. Thank you to our incredible first”.
Henry Cuellar continues to represent Texas’s 28th District from his home city of Laredo. He succeeded Ciro Rodriguez in Congress in 2005 after serving nearly fifteen years in state government.
