Rep. Henry Cuellar, a U.S. Congressman from Texas, posted on his social media accounts to recognize National Dog Day and express condolences following a tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.

On August 26, 2025, Cuellar wrote, “Folks, let me take a moment to recognize something truly special: National Dog Day! Celebrated every year on August 26, this day is all about honoring the incredible love, loyalty, and companionship that our canine friends bring into our lives.

The following day, August 27, 2025, Cuellar addressed the public after an incident in Minneapolis. He stated, “I am devastated by the tragic shooting this morning at the church at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. The loss of innocent children and the injuries sustained by so many is heartbreaking. Places of worship should be sanctuaries of peace, not scenes of violence, and my”. Henry Cuellar has represented his district through multiple election cycles. In 2024 he won re-election against Jay Furman with 52.8% of the vote; previous victories include defeating Cassy Garcia in 2022 with 56.65%, Sandra Whitten in 2020 with 58.3%, Arthur Thomas in 2018 with 84.4%, Zeffen Hardin in 2016 with 66.2%, and Will Alkens in 2014 with over 82% of the vote.
