South Texas is currently experiencing severe heat warnings, according to recent posts by Rep. Henry Cuellar, who represents Texas’ 28th district in the U.S. Congress. On July 23, 2025, Cuellar used his social media account to alert residents about dangerously high temperatures and to encourage the use of local cooling centers.
In a tweet posted on July 23, 2025, Cuellar stated: “South Texas is under severe heat warnings, with temperatures expected to reach 104 degrees. Folks, when it’s too hot to tough it out, please take a break from the heat.

He followed up in separate posts that same day by listing specific counties affected: “Duval and Guadalupe County. https://t.co/riyC1usnMw” and “Atascosa, Starr, and Zapata County. https://t.co/fAZht9EK6r”.
Cuellar has represented Texas’s 28th District in Congress since 2005 after succeeding Ciro Rodriguez. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1987 to 2001. Born in Laredo in 1955, Cuellar continues to reside there today. He holds a BA from Georgetown University and a JD from the University of Texas at Austin.
