Laredo approves mandatory stay at home order

Fate

The City of Laredo has approved a Stay Home - Work Safe order, shutting down most businesses in the city.

Mayor Pete Saenz's order went into effect on March 26. All non-essential businesses have been required to close. Restaurants and bars may only offer drive-thru or to-go service. Essential businesses include grocery stores, banks, gas stations, health care facilities and child care facilities.

Residents are allowed to leave home for essential activities, including grocery shopping, a pharmacy visit, seeing a doctor, or even an outdoor walk or exercise as long as social distancing is still practiced. Working an essential job and caring for a family member in another household are also allowed.

The city is encouraging its residents to practice good hygiene to avoid the spread of the virus. Wash hands often with soap and water, use hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available, and avoid touching the face. Practice social distancing and avoid close contact with others, especially those who are sick.

Those who are sick should stay home.

As of March 29, the Webb County reported 25 positive cases of COVID-19.
