To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Laredo Police Department has received new gear to use while they are working.

According to KGNS, New-Com Global donated 10 infrared thermometers that will help them practice social distancing while also being able to get an accurate temperature reading on individuals they encounter.

Investigator Joe Baeza said the thermometers will come in highly useful as it will give police the ability to get an accurate reading while just pointing the device at an individual’s head.

“In case anybody came in contact with anyone who maybe was having symptoms, they’re able to utilize these tools which are kind of hard to come by right now cause of the large demand,” Baeza said. “The company was able to send us ten at no cost to the city or the department.”

While the police are not going to be routinely checking people’s temperatures as part of their job, they are grateful to have a tool that can be safely used.
