More than 6,000 Laredo families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic received much-needed assistance from the South Texas Food Bank (STFB) on June 6.
STFB marketing director Camilla Sosa said the initiative, one of the organization’s largest since the start of the outbreak, garnered an amazing response.
“We are all just happy to support our community during this tough time,” Sosa told the Laredo Morning Times.
The food bank previously served around 3,000 families at another event, the newspaper reported.
Sosa said it is the pantry’s mission to address the food insecurities of households that suffered layoffs or reduced schedules because of the coronavirus. She added that 200 volunteers lent a helping hand.
STFB is unsure when it will have another food drive as doing so is dependent on funding
“We are very grateful to the City of Laredo who came in with some funds,” Sosa told the Morning Times. “We are grateful for Webb County. We are still pending what we can do throughout the next month. We might slowly taper off.”
