Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) has helped obtain almost $52 million to fund a project focused on flood risk management and ecosystem restoration of Chacon Creek.
“Green spaces are an integral part of a happy, healthy city,” Cuellar said on his website. “That’s why for the last 16 years, I have been working hard to secure full authorized funding of Chacon Creek Restoration Project. This project will help our community better withstand flooding as well as create new recreational and educational parklands, including biking and hiking trails, that our community will enjoy for future generations.”
The release states the project will entail evacuating 73 residential structures, elevating 250 homes from the flood plain, and restoring 16.75 acres of wetland and 401 acres of riparian.
“I will continue to ensure we receive the necessary funds to complete this important project so we can build a space that will create jobs, stimulate the economy and improve the quality of life for our community,” Cuellar said.
