Kleberg County attorney Kira Talip Sanchez generated attention by switching to the Republican Party on Aug. 19, a decision that unfolded during a prominent event organized by the Hispanic Republicans of Texas PAC. This move is seen as an alignment with the party's stance on law and order, especially in light of the ongoing southern border matters, a press release reported.

"I believe that the GOP’s policies of law and order protecting safety and backing the blue best align with my values and the values of the citizens of Kleberg County. I look forward to working with my colleagues to keep South Texas safe," Sanchez said.

Sanchez's affiliation change was accompanied by the presence of HRT President Cassy Garcia and Chairman George Antuna. Garcia highlighted the trend of voters and candidates switching to the Republican Party due to misalignment with the Democrats, emphasizing the importance of policies promoting prosperity, safety and freedom. Sanchez's party switch, along with those recently made by State Rep. J.M. Lozano and State Rep. Ryan Guillen, highlights a growing trend in South Texas favoring the GOP as voters increasingly lean toward the Republican Party.

In response to the party switch, Garcia expressed gratitude to Sanchez for her service to Kleberg County and conveyed enthusiasm about extending outreach efforts across Texas to expand the Republican Party's appeal. In her role as county attorney, Sanchez headed the Specialized Crimes and Narcotics Task Force, a critical entity responsible for the seizure of more than 426 million lethal doses of fentanyl by Texas law enforcement since March 2021.
