City of Laredo issued the following announcement on Oct. 12.
This morning, the City of Laredo, Mayor Pete Saenz, Council Member for District V Nelly Vielma, the Laredo Public Libraries and the Laredo Housing Authority broke ground this morning on the third location for BiblioTech. The digital library will be located at the Ana Maria Lozano Development, located at 6500 of Springfield. Laredo is the second city in the nation to implement a fully digital library, a program originally founded in Bexar County in 2013 and brought to this city by the initiative of the Laredo Housing Authority in collaboration with District V Council Member Nelly Vielma and City of Laredo.
BiblioTech offers a friendly environment where technology becomes the primary tool for education and empowerment for children and adults alike. Laredo BiblioTech’s mission is to provide community residents technology access to enhance literacy and education, promote reading as recreation and equip residents of our community with the necessary tools to thrive as citizens of the digital age. During its tenure in Laredo BiblioTech has served over 700 regular patrons with access to internet services and state of the are technology as well as tutoring, STEM workshops and camps, TAKS - state exam preparation programs, ESL classes, and career and college readiness support. With the current challenges we are facing due to COVID it is more present now than ever that libraries such as BiblioTech are an invaluable asset to the communities.
