Laredo Police Department issued the following announcement on Oct. 12.
Early voting began in Texas Monday and runs through November 2nd. Election Day is November 6th.
There are some rules voters are expected to follow as they head to the polls.
Here are some dos and don'ts at polling sites:
Can I wear a T-shirt supporting my favorite candidate?
Keep your candidate gear at home, or else you could end up with a class C misdemeanor.
As long as apparel isn't showing preference for or against "any candidate, party or measure," you should be good to go.
Can I take a ballot selfie?
Voters cannot use cellphones, cameras, tablets, laptops or sound recorders within 100 feet of voting stations. So that coveted 'I Voted' photo should be taken with some distance between you and the ballot box.
The election judge can ask folks to put away or turn off their devices. If they refuse, they can be asked to leave.
Can I bring my gun with me?
Generally speaking, firearms are prohibited at polling places, unless you're an on- or off-duty peace officer, according to the Texas Secretary of State.
How close can I be to the polling place as an Electioneer?
Do not campaign for your candidate or proposition inside the 100 foot free-zone. A polling place must be free from obstruction, intimidation, or name-calling. We appreciate your enthusiasm for your candidate or proposition stance but please be at your best behavior and make the voting process be a stress free, drama free experience where everyone can make their vote count.
Lastly, Please be patient.
If you find yourself in a long line, remember to be patient and be courteous to your fellow voter. Apply the common-sense rules regarding public etiquette. Prepare for long wait times; bring a snack or a book. If things get too heated, the poll workers will call the police. Bring lots of patience and be considerate of others.
