LAREDO POLICE DEPARTMENT: Credit Card Reading Devices At Local Gas Pumps

Cardskim

Laredo Police Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 9.

Laredo Police have located a few credit card reading devices at local gas pumps. The devices are installed in minutes and the information is accessed remotely.

The Laredo Police Department recommends some tips:

Pay inside, with cash or a credit card, rather than at the pump. ...

Choose pumps closest to a physical building. ...

Use a credit card, not a debit card, when you pay. ... A credit card offers additional protection at the pump because the funds are not immediately withdrawn from your account. Using a debit card for gas is risky, as credit thieves favor gas stations and might be able to access your account with your PIN.

Use your issuer's fraud alerts and check your card and bank statements.

Chips on Credit Cards are vulnerable also. Credit card thieves have new tools to access your credit card information.

If you see anyone opening or attempting to open a gas pump panel please call Laredo Police at (956)-795-2800 or contact us using the Laredo Police Department App. You can upload information, pictures and video completely anonymous.
