City of Laredo issued the following announcement on Dec. 30.
On December 29, 2020, the City of Laredo proudly hosted the swearing-in ceremony for District 4 Council Member, Alberto Torres, Jr., as he was re-elected to the Laredo City Council. The ceremony took place at City Hall Council Chambers and was led by the Honorable Anna B. Galo, Commissioner of Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission, who served as master of ceremonies. The Honorable Tano E. Tijerina, Webb County Judge, administered the oath of office.
For the past four years, Council Member Torres has been representing District 4. Throughout his first term in office, many projects were accomplished. Some of them include:
- The creation of a district-wide Neighborhood Empowerment Zone (NEZ), which brought $41.5 million in new economic development projects to the district and created jobs
- Bringing over $1 million for needed sidewalk and street improvements, of which more than half has been at no cost to taxpayers
- Improving water quality in the district by bringing over $8 million in utilities
- Introducing the first-ever animal neglect registry in Texas with the intention of ending pet abuse
- Being appointed as Mayor Pro-Tempore for the Laredo City Council, becoming the youngest city council member in Laredo’s history to hold such title
The City of Laredo congratulates Alberto Torres, Jr. on his re-election and looks forward to many more achievements during his second term in the Laredo City Council.
