Washington, DC – Last week, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) hosted a roundtable with more than a dozen South Texas labor unions. Attendees included members of the Texas and San Antonio American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), Communication Workers of America (CWA), International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC), Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA), American Federation of Teachers (AFT), International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), and the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). During the townhall, Congressman Cuellar shared updates on his work in Congress to support union jobs and American workers.

“I am proud to stand with the working men and women of South Texas,” said Congressman Cuellar. “I want to thank the more than 60 union members who joined my roundtable. They raised numerous issues that will continue to inform my work in Washington. I will continue to fight for good wages, more apprenticeship and job opportunities, and better funding for worker protection programs and labor law enforcement efforts.”

Congressman Cuellar is a strong supporter of American workers.

• He is an original cosponsor of the Tax Fairness for Workers Act and the No Tax Breaks for Union Busting Act—bills that would make the tax deduction for union dues above-the-line and end the taxpayer subsidization of business anti-union activity.
• He recently wrote to the Biden Administration urging them to prioritize partnering with unionized workforces on green energy projects authorized by the Inflation Reduction Act and semiconductor funding authorized by the CHIPS Act.
• As a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, he helped secure the first increase in funding for the National Labor Relations Board since 2014 in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 spending agreement.
• He secured a $1.3 million earmark in the FY 2024 House appropriations bill for the City of San Antonio’s “Ready to Work Initiative” to enhance apprenticeship opportunities.
• He wrote to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy urging him to prioritize deliveries of Next Generation Delivery Vehicles to letter carriers in South Texas.
