The only school district in Jim Hogg County suffered declining enrollment in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency report.

There were 1,072 students in the halls of Jim Hogg County ISD schools, 0.6% lower than the year before.

Enrollment in Jim Hogg County fell short of the state’s trend compared to the state’s trend of increasing enrollment.

Out of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 53.2% of them were boys, and 46.8% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were Hispanic, representing 96.5% of the Jim Hogg County ISD total enrollment.

Jim Hogg County ISD has a main office in Hebbronville and is the only school district within Jim Hogg County.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

“The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students, dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools, gun violence, and mental health issues,” claimed the Texas Almanac.
