Henry Cuellar, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas' 28th district since 2005, shared updates on community and environmental initiatives through a series of tweets. Born in Laredo, Texas, and having begun his legal education at Georgetown University, Cuellar continues to engage actively with his local community and broader legislative responsibilities.
On the morning of April 22, Cuellar participated in an event in Laredo to celebrate the commencement of National Community Development Week. He was joined by Mayor Dr. Victor Treviño, Community Development Director Tina Martinez, and other local leaders. This initiative serves to recognize the impact of federal funding programs, such as the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Programs, in strengthening community resources. Cuellar announced this on Twitter, stating, "This morning in Laredo, I joined Mayor Dr. Victor Treviño, Community Development Director Tina Martinez, and local leaders to kick off National Community Development Week—a time to recognize the powerful impact of federal dollars in our communities through the CDBG and HOME."
Later that same morning, on April 22, Cuellar highlighted the renaming of Cimarron Park in Universal City to Neville Park, in homage to Councilmember Richard “Dick” Neville for his 26 years of public service. Cuellar mentioned that the renaming ceremony was attended by Olivia Branson, his San Antonio Outreach Coordinator. Mayor Tom Maxwell and former Mayor John were also thanked for their involvement. Cuellar wrote, "This morning in Universal City, my San Antonio Outreach Coordinator Olivia Branson celebrated the renaming of Cimarron Park to Neville Park in honor of Councilmember Richard “Dick” Neville and his 26 years of dedicated service."
Finally, in recognition of Earth Day, which Cuellar emphasized holds significant importance, he tweeted about the collective responsibility to preserve natural resources. On April 22, Cuellar reflected on this occasion, marking its "55th anniversary," to highlight the significance of environmental protection efforts. He wrote on Twitter, "On the 55th anniversary of #EarthDay, I’m reminded of our solemn responsibility to safeguard the natural resources that sustain our communities, drive our economy, and ensure a healthy future."
Cuellar, now in his late 60s and having a distinguished background that includes a degree from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas at Austin, continues to underscore community development and environmental stewardship through his public service.
