CITY OF LAREDO: ReCode Laredo Kicks Off Citywide Public Meetings Focused on Updating Laredo’s Land Development Code

Meetingschl

City of Laredo issued the following announcement on Feb  26.

The City of Laredo City Planning Department has announced several public meetings in February and March to discuss the future plans of the city with Laredo residents. The City of Laredo Planning Department staff will be going to a location in each of the city’s eight Council Districts every Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., beginning February 5th and ending on March 25th.

At each “Planning Night,” four projects will be discussed: the Thoroughfare Plan, the Future Land Use Plan, the Active Transportation Plan, and ReCode Laredo.

The Thoroughfare Plan covers how we plan for transportation. The Future Land Use Plan covers where we put our homes, businesses, and other types of land uses. The Active Transportation Plan covers how we can encourage more walking, bicycling, and transit use. And ReCode Laredo is the City of Laredo’s effort to update the Land Development Code, which are the rules for how we build in the city.

Booths will be set up for each project in an open house format where citizens can ask questions of staff and provide input on each project. Food will be served and activities will be provided for children in attendance.

By taking the meetings on the road to each district, having all four projects discussed on the same night, and making the format of the meetings less formal and more engaging, the City of Laredo Planning Department hopes to see increased participation from the public.

In addition to the “Planning Nights,” a special event will be held on Thursday, February 6 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This event will be a presentation by Joe Minicozzi of Urban3, who will speak about how we can better plan for the financial health of the city. This free event will be open to all and will be held at Laredo College’s Martinez Fine Arts Center.

All events will be open to the General public. For a complete schedule and locations for each meeting visit www.vivalaredo.org/recode and click on the “Events” tab.
