Laredo Police Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 3.
On November 29th a total of 8 trash dumpster fires were reported during the overnight hours throughout different parts of West Laredo. LPD Patrol divised strategies to increase presence and fortify the areas affected by the criminal arsons. On November 30th shortly before Midnight 2 fires were reported on Gallagher and San Dario. LPD Patrol was able to obtain surveillance footage of a suspect vehicle leaving the scene of one of the fires. It turns out that an LPD Patrol Officer had conducted a traffic stop earlier in the evening matching the description of the suspect car. Investigators went to the home of the driver and identified Juan Manuel Sanchez, age 26 as a suspect. He was questioned and eventually confessed to starting the fires that evening. He was arrested and charged with 2 counts of criminal mischief. The Laredo Fire Department Arson Investigative Unit will follow up this case for possible additional criminal charges.
