San Antonio, TX – U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28) delivered a keynote address and received the 2023 Retiree Hero award at the San Antonio Central Labor Council’s Labor Day Breakfast. The annual event celebrates the labor movement and San Antonio working families.
During the breakfast, Dr. Cuellar was awarded the 2023 Retiree Hero award by the Alliance for Retired Americans for his 100% voting record in support of American retirees.
“On Labor Day, we recognize the enormous contributions of American workers throughout our country’s history. We also celebrate the hard-fought victories of the American labor movement over the generations,” said Dr. Cuellar, a Senior Member of the House Appropriations Committee. “Thank you to San Antonio Central Labor Council President Geronimo Guerra for inviting me to join you in celebrating our South Texas workers on this special day. Last month, I announced $1,300,000 in Congressionally directed funding for the City of San Antonio’s Ready to Work Initiative, which focuses on upskilling through apprenticeships and partners with local unions. And thank you to longtime labor advocate Linda Chavez-Thompson for awarding me the 2023 Retiree Hero award. In Congress, I will always fight for our seniors.”
Dr. Cuellar is a strong supporter of American workers. In the FY23 Omnibus appropriations bill, he secured $285 million in federal funds for registered apprenticeships. In the FY24 Health and Human Services appropriations bill, Dr. Cuellar secured $20 million in federal funds for water and wastewater system registered apprenticeships.
